SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2015: BACK TO THE ROOTS
The 2015 Vientianale Short Film Competition attracted 22 entries from across Laos. This year filmmakers were tasked with creating a film to the theme ‘Back to the Roots’. Around 800 community members turned out to watch the short film showcase outdoors at the Cultural Hall, and were also treated to a special dance performance from Fanglao Dance Company who produced an original piece to the theme.
A special thank you to our independent jury: prolific Lao writer Mrs Dara Viravong; award-winning documentary maker and producer Mrs Vannaphone Sitthirath; award-winning writer and filmmaking mentor Mr Bounthanh Phongphichid; up-and-coming Lao filmmaking talent and two-time Vientianale Short Film Competition Winner Mr Vilayphong Phongsavanh; and Mrs Simmany Keokene, head of film control at the Department of Cinema, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
