SABAIDEE

Welcome to the 3rd Vientianale International Film Festival

Over five evenings the Vientianale will screen a wide range of new Lao and international movies at the National Circus. In addition, there will be two daytime screenings at the Cinema Department for students and children: documentaries will include the opportunity to share views and ask questions to filmmakers and experts, and other fiction movies will screen during the day.

Don't miss the party on Friday night: our free concert of four independent Lao bands will rock the house at the National Circus.

The highlight of the festival will be the short film competition on the last evening: don't miss it! You will be able to vote by SMS during the screening! Young Lao professional and amateur filmmakers have worked very hard to make their "Dream" movie come true. The three best films will be chosen by an independent jury of Lao film and art specialists.

We are pleased to invite you to our photo exhibition "Dream Palaces to Dream Making" at I:cat Art Gallery . The Lao New Wave Cinema team makes us glimpse into the world of filmmaking with a series of "behind the scene" photographs of recent Lao films while documentary photographers Philip Jablon (within his Southeast Asian Movie Theater project) and Micka Perier preserve the memory of old Lao movie theaters.

Lastly, the Vientianale would not have been possible without the generous support and cooperation of all our donors and partners. We give special thanks to Mr. Bounchao Phichit, Director General of the Cinema Department of the Ministry of Information and Culture, as well as his staff for their dedication, cooperation and support. We also thank all our donors for making this a free cultural event for the community of Vientiane and all our media partners.

Please explore our programme and enjoy our movies … lights out!
